CURB APPEAL INITIATIVE AIMS TO BOOST COMMUNITY PRIDE

Roxboro Housing Authority staff and contractors continue with efforts to improve the appearance and safety of its four sites.

"We want our properties to look as clean, neat and well landscaped as any other decent apartment community," said Felts Lewis, RHA executive director. "Several safety concerns were addressed after inspecting our sites."

A procurement for lawn care services has attracted over six vendors to professionally cut, trim, edge, and blow all Housing Authority properties. Lawn service has started with an initial service with permanent service to commence by mid April 2023.

Daily trash, broken glass, and other debris pick up is ongoing. A contractor on a periodic basis disposes of old furniture, tires, and other bulky items left around dumpsters. An effort to remove undesired items left on front and back porches took place in February 2023. Three Section 3 workers, local low-income individuals desiring to perform contract work, were used. This is part of RHA's Second Chance Initiative.

Multiple safety railings have been installed by contractors at Lee Gardens Apartments, including in the creek area.

Trip hazards such as raised sections of sidewalks, uneven sections within the grounds, and washed away areas citywide have been addressed.

Community garden at all four sites are being prepared for planting tomatoes, cucumbers, and other crops in the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to help prepare and plant.
