RHA Executive Director Lewis Unveils 2023 Annual Plan

RHA ED Lewis Presents 2023 Annual Plan to RAB Oct 2022.

DIRECTOR LEWIS SHARES 2023 PLAN WITH RESIDENTS

ROXBORO--Roxboro Housing Authority Executive Director Felts Lewis discussed in detail the proposed 2023 Annual Plan at the monthly Resident Advisory Board (RAB) meeting today.

"Today, I share with you (residents) our priorities following another year dealing with COVID-19 along with a depressed economy due to inflation," Lewis said.  "We plan to start putting into action in 2023 what we've wanted to do in 2022."

Highlights of 2023 priorities include enhanced security measures (video surveillance monitoring, lighting and vegetation improvements); playground equipment installation and repairs; painting and repairs to occupied units and new HVAC installation.

Lewis said a vacant five-bedroom at Harris Gardens Apts. will become a multipurpose space for teenagers to have fun playing billiards and technology games, gain jobs and job training and receive academic support and mentoring.  Also, on-site laundry equipment, primarily dryers, is planned to be installed in the space across from RHA's Police Substation and social service programs building, also once a vacant five-bedroom unit.

Improved WI-FI service performance also is a priority for the agency, Lewis said. As one of only a few public housing authorities in the U.S. that provides each household with free, in-unit high-speed internet access, RHA wants to shore up connectivity issues that have been identified through purchasing appropriate hardware equipment.

According to the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), public housing authorities are required to give at least 45 days of public notice of its annual plan for the following fiscal year.

The plan is available at the RHA Administrative Office, 500 Mt. Bethel Church St., Roxboro.

A formal public hearing is set for Wed., Dec. 7, 2022.  The hearing takes place during the virtual meeting of the Roxboro Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Input from the RAB, other residents and the general public are encouraged.
