Mayfield Ragland Center Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
MAYFIELD RAGLAND CENTER RIBBON-CUTTING AT RHA
HARRIS GARDENS APTS. FIRST OF SEVERAL PLANNED CORNERSTONE AMERICA CENTERS TO FOSTER CHANGE IN LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES
ROXBORO, N.C.-- A plan by the Roxboro Housing Authority over three years ago to take offline a five-bedroom unit at Harris Gardens Apts. for a multi-purpose facility targeting youths, teens and their parents is now a reality.
The Mayfield Ragland Center Ribbon-cutting Ceremony on Fri., Apr. 26 marked the beginning of a prosperous journey for individuals and families to become self-sufficient through entrepreneurship assistance, computer coding training, academic support and more.
Thanks goes out to Courtney Jordan Foundation (CJF). The non-profit was founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Courtney Jordan, a Charlotte native and graduate of N.C. Central Univ. in Durham.
The facility is named after RHA's FSS Coordinator Larry Mayfield and ROSS Coordinator Jonica Ragland-both making a significant difference in the lives of low- and very-low income citizens in Person Co.
The center's first activity was a fireside chat with the kids on Sat., Apr. 27. Janel Buckingham, executive director of Cornerstone America, had the honor to meet the children and their parents.
A book talk event with best-selling author T.J. Walker Jr. takes place Tues., May 28 at Lee Gardens Community Center at 3 p.m.
